Native Garden Projects
There are many compelling reasons to consider a native Australian garden. Over millions of years our Australian flora has evolved to cope with the testing conditions of our Summers, and also our low-phosphorus soils. Over recent years there has been much work done breeding exciting and attractive new cultivated forms of Australian plants.
It just makes so much sense to consider native plant plant selection, or at least to consider an integrated [lanting of native ustralian plants with other drought tolerant plants.
It can in fact be argued that virtually any style of garden can be effectively planted with Australian native plants. Surprisingly, many of the textures of Australian plants make them amazingly suitable for use in Japanese-style gardens! Many others lend themselves to a 'cottage garden' approach.
The pictures below are examples from relaxed, informal native gardens which have been designed by Sandra McMahon.
